Just Add Ink #162 - Just Add a New Technique

Hello Everyone,

This week at Just Add Ink, the challenge is to try a technique you haven't used before.  Well there were a few on my list to try, including Block Stamping, but I came across a new one on Pinterest today which was an adaption of that - "Rainbow Block stamping".  See this on Stamp with Sandy, by Sandy Fleming, to view this cool technique.

So here is my card made using this technique to create a colourful background.

I've used the Papillon Potpourri stamp set to stamp butterflies directly onto the background with Black Stazon Ink.  Oval Framelits were used to cut an oval out of the centre of a Basic Black cut Top Notes diecut to frame the images and this was layered on a card base of Basic Black and Summer Starfruit embossed with the Honeycomb Embossing Folder.  The greeting was cut with the Ticket punch.  It's just to simple card to highlight the technique.

This was the sheet, before I stamped and framed it. (This was my second attempt this afternoon)

The technique involves colouring with markers onto an acrylic block, then spraying it with water and stamping it onto Very Vanilla cardstock.  The markers I've used here are Raspberry Ripple, Wisteria Wonder, Midnight Muse, Lucky Limeade, Summer Starfruit and Calypso Coral.

I've used the Blooming with Kindness set and the same colours for the technique, however in a different order.  I found that the block on my first attempt was a bit wetter and the cardstock really buckled alot.  As this card is not perfect (too warped from being too wet) I wasn't happy with the result when finished, although I really liked the stamp with the slightly softer looking colours.

Thanks so much for the challenge as it prompted me to try something different.  That shaving cream technique shown by some of the DT members is also on my list of techniques to try and sounds like fun.  I think I'll have to try that one out soon.
