Snowflakes

Hello Everyone,

Do you ever have those days where things don't go as planned?  What you visualise just is not happpening.  I've had that problem the last few days, where I've needed to create for some deadlines and things just weren't working out.  These are a couple of cards I've made that I wasn't happy with submitting, so instead they will most likely be put aside for my Donation cards for the Troops for Christmas.

This is the first one, which looked better in my mind than when executed.  I probably should have made it an easel card rather than stuck with the square.  The base card is Midnight Muse which I've teamed with Very Vanilla, Pool Party and Silver Glimmer.  It started out as the sketch from the Paper Craft Crew as the basis for my design.

I have all the elements there that I envisaged.  I used the Snowflake Soiree stamp set which is still available on our Christmas carryover list. I also used the Illuminate Ink pad for the snowflakes on the front of this card.  It's a subtle effect and glimmers on the Midnight Muse card.  I did some paper piercing around my vellum window and stamped the greeting on the front of the vellum with Whisper White Craft Ink (cause I couldn't find my Versamark inkpad) heat embossed with Pool Party embossing powder and I stamped some snowflakes inside to show through the window.

This is the inside view.

A little too busy I think.
This is the closed view.

It has all the elements there, but didn't come together as I'd hoped so it's not in my faves.  We can all have a bad day I suppose.

And onto the next disaster/oops I mean card.  I just had to keep trying from a different approach.  I'm sharing this card, not because I want you to think of me as a dill, but so you can learn from my mistakes.  Note to self:  Search for the Embossing buddy (they are great)

I really love the colours of this card and the elements used. The base of my card is Pool Party.   I first masked off a panel on my Whisper White Card with Post It Notes and sponged Pool Party and Perfect Plum inks into the area, then I proceeded to stamp and I hit a snag.  Lets just say that it pays to use your Embossing Buddy when working with Silver Embossing powder.  If you click on the picture to enlarge it you will see the mess.  Excess powder specs are everywhere.  A friend suggested to me this could be a storm lol!  a snowstorm with bits of snowflakes all over the place.  I think this card is best left to look at from a distance.  I used the Snowflake Soiree set once again.  So I couldn't use my embossing buddy/ies (I actually have 2 and couldn't find either),  and I couldn't use my versamark ink either, couldn't find that.  It will be in the same spot with my Embossing buddy.  You know, it's always the last place that you look, der!

So now you know I am far from perfect, but I do like to be a perfectionist and these cards don't sit well with me.  I'm looking for a scapegoat, someone to blame for my mishaps of late.  (yep looking in my husband's direction.  I'm rushing because I need to share the PC, and he is home ATM) LOL!  I have also been constantly interrupted playing telephone receptionist and screening and answering all his calls while he's home.  The sooner he starts a new Contract, the better.

I have a masculine Birthday card to make soon for a special crafty friend.  I wonder how many attempts it will take me to make his card.  I'll have to give myself lots of time.

Hope you all have a better day than mine.  Cheers.

  1. Thank you for sharing with us - even if you aren't 100%. I have those days too! Actually if you look at my blog I haven't posted much this week - just couldn't bring myself to share my disasters!
I actually don't mind the first one or the second with the snow storm - but I do know what you mean. And aren't the kiddos the best critics. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

  2. Carolyn, may I request your first disaster be put aside for my Christmas card please, I think it looks great! I have made a card that to me is disaster for this Sat, Mark says just leave it and tell them to learn from your mistakes, no way it is all cut out again waiting to be put together, crooked DSP will always by my pet hate!
